How to make screws hardened?

How to make screws and nut hardened?

Lots furniture making needs screws and nub, bolts and nails, and connecting hardware.

Today we show you how to make make screws hardened.

I think you and wood worker have a experience like this, when you hammer a nail into a hard object like wall or solid wood furniture,

the nail curved. It is a phenomenon because of nails or bolt not hard enough.

Today, we are going to talk about how to make screws and nuts hardened.

It is heat treating process to make your furniture hardware hardened.

Heat treating is a group of industrial and metalworking processes used to alter the physical, and sometimes chemical properties of a material.

Heat treatments are also used in the manufacture of many other materials, such as glass. Heat treatment involves the use of heating or chilling, normally to extreme temperatures, to achieve a desired result such as hardening or softening of a material.

Physical Processes

Metallic materials consist of a  microstructure of small crystals called “grains” or crystallites. The nature of the grains (i.e. grain size and composition) is one of the most effective factors that can determine the overall mechanical behavior of the metal. Heat treatment provides an efficient way to manipulate the properties of the metal by controlling the rate of diffusion and the rate of cooling within the microstructure. Heat treating is often used to alter the mechanical properties of an alloy, manipulating properties such as the hardnessstrengthtoughnessductility, and elasticity.

Quenching is a very important process of heat treating process.

Quenching is a process to heat metal to the critical temperature Ac3 or Ac1, keep metal in this high temperature for a short of time, and then cooling it in a very rapid rate, in this way the metal will be get better physical properties, such as hardness, strength, toughness, ductility.

Normally, quenching process used in iron and stainless steel products.

As to aluminum, zinc, alloy and tempered glass, there is also quenching process, people name a heat treatment of heating these material quickly and rapid cooling it as a quenching process.
